The word "eczema" is also used specifically to talk about atopic dermatitis, the most common type of eczema."Atopic" refers to a collection of diseases involving the immune system, including atopic dermatitis, asthma, and hay fever. Dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin.Some people outgrow the condition, while others will continue to have it throughout adulthood.
What are the symptoms of eczema? Dry, sensitive skin. Red, inflamed skin. Very bad itching. Dark colored patches of skin. Rough, leathery or scaly patches of skin. Oozing or crusting. Areas of swelling.
A number of treatments are available from your doctor to help treat discoid eczema, and there also some things you can do at home to make the skin more comfortable. See your GP for a diagnosis (and treatment) if you think that you may have discoid eczema, because other skin conditions such as psoriasis and ring worm can look very similar
Some common symptoms of atopic dermatitis: Wet, scaly skin. Redness (erythema) Itching. Cracks behind the ears. A rash on the cheeks, arms and legs. Open, crusted or “weepy” sores (usually during flare-ups)
